Rwanda-United Arab Emirates: Media Partnership

Rwandan President Paul Kagame received Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office (NMO) and the United Arab Emirates Media Council (UAEMC), and his delegation to discuss media cooperation.

The meeting took place on Tuesday, May 9, at the Head of State’s office in Urugwiro Village. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Rwanda and the United Arab Emirates in the media sector. Both parties emphasized the role of the media in promoting bilateral relations and deepening partnerships.

The National Media Office in the United Arab Emirates, headed by Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, has been elevated to the rank of ministry since January 2024.

It is responsible for developing the media, training its professionals and ensuring that information about their country is disseminated internationally in accordance with their beliefs.

The Rwandan and UAE governments already enjoy good relations, reinforced by long-standing cooperation in developing sectors such as the economy, security, and infrastructure.

The United Arab Emirates has been Rwanda’s largest export market for many years.

Bilateral relations between the United Arab Emirates and Rwanda have seen remarkable progress in recent years. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have managed to establish and strengthen a strong and exceptional partnership that has enabled rapid progress on the path to growth and prosperity.

Visits have been organized between senior officials of the two countries and discussions are ongoing on ways to strengthen bilateral relations, develop cooperation in various fields and expand these relations to new horizons.

The distinguished bilateral relations between the United Arab Emirates and Rwanda are characterized by their strength, depth, stability, and a solid and exceptional partnership. This partnership has enabled progress towards new horizons in all fields and at various levels, thus meeting the hopes and aspirations of the two friendly peoples.

These good relations led Rwanda to open its embassy in Abu Dhabi and its consulate in Dubai in 2015, and the United Arab Emirates to open its embassy in Kigali in 2018.
