Rwanda-Ukraine: Strengthening parliamentary diplomacy

Ukrainian Ambassador to Rwanda Viacheslav Yatsiuk paid a courtesy call on Rwandan Senate President Dr. François Xavier Kalinda on Monday. They discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and parliamentary diplomacy.

The President of the Senate, Dr. Kalinda François Xavier, received in audience in his office the Ambassador of Ukraine to Rwanda, Viacheslav Viktorovych Yatsiuk.

The discussions focused mainly on strengthening relations and cooperation between the two countries, and especially parliamentary diplomacy.

The two personalities discussed promoting collaboration in sectors such as education, agriculture, trade and technology.

Ambassador Viacheslav welcomed the progress made by Rwanda on the path to development.

Dr. Kalinda welcomed Ambassador Viacheslav Yatsiuk’s visit, saying it aimed to strengthen relations and cooperation. He noted that this was his first visit to the Rwandan Senate since taking office in the country on May 21.

For his part, Ambassador Viacheslav also welcomed Rwanda’s progress on the path to development. He promised a strong partnership based on shared interests and the building of lasting peace.

Cooperation between Rwanda and Ukraine is mainly manifested in the political, educational, cultural and humanitarian fields.

There is ongoing cooperation in the field of education

A memorandum of understanding on political consultations was signed between the two countries, demonstrating their commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations. Ukraine continues to express its solidarity with Rwanda, particularly during commemorations of the genocide against the Tutsi.

In addition, there is ongoing cooperation in the field of education, although the number of Rwandan students in Ukraine has declined in recent years, following the conflict with Russia.

Regarding the cultural and humanitarian fields, there is cooperation in these areas, with a desire to strengthen cultural exchanges and support humanitarian initiatives.

Ukraine could become an important partner for Rwanda in training Rwandan technical personnel, particularly in the fields of engineering, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Education.
